Volkswagen Malaysia Launches Locally Assembled Tayron SUV Starting at RM189,890

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially introduced the all-new Tayron, a seven-seater SUV positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg in the brand's local lineup. Locally assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan, Pahang, the vehicle is offered in two specifications: the entry-level Elegance and the higher-specification R-Line.

Pricing and Availability​

The Tayron Elegance carries a recommended retail price of RM189,890. With the optional Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which includes five years of free maintenance, a five-year manufacturer warranty, and five years of roadside assistance, the price is RM199,990. The Elegance is currently available at local dealerships.

The performance-oriented R-Line variant is currently available for preview only, with an estimated price range between RM259,000 and RM269,000. VPCM is offering an introductory promotion for the first 69 buyers, extending maintenance coverage to seven years alongside personal accident and key protection coverage.

Powertrains and Performance​

The two variants utilize distinct powertrain setups:

• Tayron Elegance: Powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid engine outputting 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The system utilizes a 48-volt belt-driven starter-alternator and Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus), which shuts down two cylinders under low and medium load conditions to lower fuel consumption.
• Tayron R-Line: Powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine producing 265 PS and 400 Nm of torque, paired with Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

Both engines are paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. Volkswagen Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro) adaptive suspension is standard across both models.

Interior, Dimensions, and Equipment​

The Tayron offers a three-row seating configuration with 40:20:40 split-folding second-row seats and 50:50 split-folding third-row seats. Maximum cargo capacity is rated at 1,905 litres with the second and third rows folded down. A hands-free power tailgate is standard.

Front cabin equipment includes Varenna leather ergoActive Plus seats with 12-way electrical adjustment, heating, ventilation, and a 10-cushion pneumatic massage function. The gear selector has been relocated to the steering column, freeing space on the center console for a multi-function rotary control dial used to adjust drive modes, volume, and ambient lighting.

Key differences in interior and exterior equipment include:

• Tayron Elegance: Features LED Plus headlights, 3D LED taillights, an 8-speaker audio system, and a 12.9-inch Discover infotainment screen.
• Tayron R-Line: Features IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlights with dynamic turn signals, a windshield head-up display, a 15-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment screen, and a 10-speaker, 700-watt Harman Kardon audio system with a dedicated subwoofer.

Both variants utilize the MIB4 software system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument display, and the IDA voice assistant.

Safety Features​

The Tayron holds a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Standard safety equipment includes nine airbags, featuring a front-center airbag designed to prevent occupant contact during side impacts.
