Sunroofs on a Wira

legal or not legal? shalt we debate this age old topic?

does anybody have relatives or friends in the JPJ dept to actually check the legality of having a sunroof on a local car? let us answer this question once and for all.

I THINK NO NEED TO HAVE FRIENDS OR RELATIVES IN JPJ TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION....JUST CALL JPJ & FIND OUT.....THATS ALL....NO NEED TO DEBATE & ALL THAT.......from my knowledge it shd be legal as long as we bring the car for inspection after installation & they certify it is safe ....then ok lah.

it's rather pointless because i have enquired at JPJ and they seem to give me different answers everytime.

i was hoping if anyone who has acquaintances within the department, could provide me with a black/white proof that the sunroof is road-legal once it passes inspection.

my caps locks was on accidentally.....after typying then only i realised.... so i did not try to stress anything with block letters or whatsoever.......

u can even chk their website : http://www.jpj.gov.my to get info. jpj may not b very professional but i think if u call & talk to the right personnel, then they may be able to gv u a definite answer......

SUNROOF APPROVED BY JPJ......NO need inspection also.....now only i am using block letters to stress my points.....easy bro....no sweat :)

u sure o not its legal...cos ask a JPJ officer abt this when i sent my car 4 inspection...
he say ILLEGAL... reason is u have to cut out the center roof panel to install them(sunroof)... this according to him will make yr roof structure weak... n may cause the roof 2 cum down or fall apart during accidents....

just sharing...

Terdapat pengubahsuaian atau pemasangan aksesori yang boleh dilakukan tanpa mendapatkan kelulusan daripada Ketua Pengarah JPJ, terutamanya pengubahsuaian atau pemasangan yang tidak memberi kesan kepada ciri-ciri, kestabilan dan keselamatan kenderaan berkenaan seperti:-

Pemasangan air spoiler di bahagian hadapan dan belakang.

Pemasangan side skirt, aerofoil dan door visor pada kereta.

Pemasangan protecting guards pada bahagian hadapan dan belakang kereta.

-

Pengubahsuaian kecil pada radiator grilles, bonet atau bentuk serta rekabentuk lampu-lampu.

-

Pengubahsuaian kecil pada radiator grilles, bonet atau bentuk serta rekabentuk lampu-lampu.

-

Pengubahsuaian kecil dan melebarkan tyre wings atau mudguard.

-

Pengubahsuaian atau pemasangan tambahan bumper besar (sama ada jenis keluli atau fibreglass) pada bahagian hadapan dan belakang.

-

Pemasangan rim dan tayar yang lebih besar.

-

Pemasangan para bumbung.

-

Pemasangan sun roof di atas bumbung.

-

Pemasangan lampu brek tambahan (berwarna merah) atau lampu penunjuk arah (berwarna amber).

-

Pemasangan spot light atau lampu halogen (kedua-duanya berwarna putih dan kuning) pada bahagian hadapan sahaja iaitu tambahan kepada lampu yang sedia ada.

-

Pemasangan pengadang angin, penutup lampu fibreglass dan penutup enjin fibreglass pada bahagian hadapan motosikal di mana aksesori-aksesori ini tidak terkeluar dari hujung pemegang motosikal.

u only can use aftermarket roof like those selling in brothers....
if from japan half cut...then u cut the roof pillar then weld it back...is cannot lor

no no....brothers one just cut a hole in the center....
but i saw some dude buy from half cut then cut the whole roof.....then weld the halfcut roof to the car...then is illegal....

eh? i never knew they cut the A/B/C Pillars when installing the Mitsu sunroofs. i don't think that is the right way to do it, you should only change the roof panel right?

Yes. On Galant E33A, VR-4's poorer cousin... the swap to sun roof if easy. Just remove the roof panel - yes, it is removable! And swap the donor roof panel w/ sunroof on it.

This is the same method used to repair cars damaged in an accident (turn turtle). They don't cut the A/B/C pillars (some still do but it is a thing of the past) anymore. But, some cars do not have the capability to swap hence, cutting of A/B/C pillars is required.
