Audi A4 1.8

Hi guys,

I am thinking about getting a 1996/1997 Audi A4 1.8. What are the common problems and what should I look out for?

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

if budget allows, get the turbo.

biggest headache = gearbox , steering rack, and control arms(8 of them).

Well, I guess not everyone is born with silver spoons in their mouths... Guess for me, I'd be really satisfied with a reliable, problem-free 1996 Audi A4 1.8... Sigh...

its a RS4 but do u need reminding that it shares the same base a a regular A4? :D

yeah... the 4.2litre V8 will probably beat M3 in a straight line... but not sure bout da handling even if Audi has the Quattro.

The M3 probably has the RS4's ass when it comes to handling, but not traction and grip. With Quattro the Audi beats the Beemer, especially when the weather gets tough.

Top Gear already did. They've pitted the M3 with the forerunner to the RS4, the S4, which only had an extra horsepower advantage over the M3, was heavier than the M3 but had 4WD. In a straight line the M3 was faster than the S4, just, but the S4 was faster round the bends and it posted a better lap time as a result.

yeah i remember those track times when the track was wet...

RS4 might have the E46 M3's ass but the current E90 M3 has upped the ante to a V8 bro... mayb a different proposition altogether...

That's why you'd notice I used the word "current" M3.

But actually if you think about it, the new M3 will need to overpower the RS4 if it is to win on a track. Using the S4/M3 battle as a point of reference tells you how much faster the Audi is around the corners. So it wouldn't do to just match the Audi on the power stakes.
