y dont we have american super car or muscle car?like mustang,ford gt,viper,saleen n so on..?dont start with the price n road tax k...coz in malaysia we do have ferrari n lambo which almost the same price n cc ...anybody?

I'd love one.

The problem is the reputation of American cars as crude and unsophisticated, which isn't unwarranted. Things are improving nowadays with the Americans realising that the world is more than America. Hell, they even started testing their performance cars at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, which speaks volumes about their desire for change.

I like American muscle cars, they have this brutal charm to them. And as everything else that comes from Europe and Japan begin to be a little bit too complex and trying too hard to be high tech, the simplicity of cars like the Mustang and Corvette really begins to stand out. And I'm really having a thing for big, lazy, low revving, snorting, torquey V8s. Revving the back out of an engine is fun, but it doesn't take long for it to become unbearable and annoying.

left hand drive... americans rarely produce their cars in right hand drive form.. it could be a pain in the arse to drive them on msia road esp when there is alot of motobikes on the road

and one thing, parking -__-. i once ran into an american car (yes left hand drive, no idea why it is here) parking around a food court. i got annoyed because the rear of his car is 2 feet outside the parking "box" and blocking the road, only then to find out he already park his car more "inside" than the one beside him already.

so on the road and parking space designed for japanese compact, it feels like american cars just don't fit in (beside... er.. well.. smaller american cars, like the neon or compact chevy).

and ofcourse american v8 sound like heaven. but if muscle power is everything i rather get the amg dtm version of clk.. 820Nm of torque woohooo~ should we call it german muscle?

The Americans will ask themself, will they make money if they launch some American cars and end up not being popular. As it is now, Ford cars are not exactly doing very good.

And of coz we have those reasons mentioned by you guys here.

However, i've seen those V8 6.0 litre monsters on road back in Australia. They had those Holden pick up trucks. Very sleek 2 seeter with a cover on top of the goods compartment rear part. When you hear they rev the car, you get this high feeling. Its got a monstrous V8 roar. Not necessary like those VTEC scream but its a very low, bassy induction plus exhaust sound. Its fantastic!! And you literally see these crazy Aussies doing torque steer in the middle of the town because there's simply too much power going thru the wheels of those pick ups. If i'm not mistaken, the car is called Maloo or something like that.

The last time i checked, a 5 litre engine in Malaysia would incur a road tax of RM13,000 plus.

RM7000 is affordable if you can buy these car..... Just that American cars not so well build and lack of technologies advancement.... Even compare to 1991 Honda NSX.....

the latest Vipers are 8000cc. I think the SRT10 is 8300cc.

Vettes, 5.7L upwards for the late model ones.

The problems of actually owning an American muscle car in Malaysia is endless.

1) Left hand drive (astutely pointed out).
2) As big and as wide as Texas. Suicide is more fun than parking it. And the roads here are too narrow. You'd lose your wing mirrors and scrape all the paint off the sides.
3) Drinks petrol for fun. Probably needs a litre to crank it up.
4) Scare the bloody hell out of your neighbours (maybe that's a good thing).
5) You're gonna have to fix it yourself 'cos nobody knows how to.

But actually there are some heartening points;
1) There are people in Britain that does RHD conversions. Prodrive for example.
2) It is probably still not as wide as a Lamborghini and its got better road clearance. And if Lambo owners can get away with it, you can too.
3) The engine is so torquey that you can drive around in 5th gear all the time. No downshifts necessary except when you want to show some import boys who is the boss.
4) Scare the bloody hell out of just about anybody.
5) Usually very very simple machines with not much electronic rubbish. The engines are also super simple. No complicated valve mechanisms. You could probably fix it yourself with not much issues. And if you do fuck it up and it explodes, just get a new one. One American V8 probably costs less than spare parts for Lamborghinis.

If I'm not mistaken, that Caddy is only a prototype, a concept. Not going into production ie. you can't buy one.

There are plenty of tuned muscle cars that can give you 1000bhp. How controlable or reliable they are is another matter. You could even buy a twin turbo V8 LS2 from GM which comes with 1000bhp out of the crate. Too bad we don't have kit car building culture here in Malaysia, otherwise, somebody could build a seriously scary machine in their garage. Wait...we don't even have garages...lol!

Some kit cars, designed and sold by small volume makers, would probably be safer than your average Protons or even some of the really old cars that are still allowed to roam Malaysian streets.

jus wanna put in some additional info, im aware of RHD conversions.. but its a hassle n cost alot.. n if i might say once u do it u lost some american muscle car sense in it.. a lambo is wide but it has scissors door.. u can come out from it even if u park very close to the wall.. don think u can do it with wide cars with conventional doors..
