Humiliated by slap-happy City Hall man
-by SITI MARIAH BAHARUDIN - AN insurance executive was left fuming and humiliated after he was allegedly slapped three times by a City Hall officer last Saturday.
His ‘crime’? He had allegedly rammed into a motorcyclist at a roundabout, an incident which he claimed never even took place!
Recalling the incident, Kailas Bahadur, 20, said he was driving home to Sentul at 12.30am and was passing the Bulatan Pahang when several men in a City Hall van flagged him down.
"I stopped my Proton Wira and wound down the window. One of the men, in plainclothes, alighted from the van and approached the car.
"I was shocked when he reached into my car and pulled out the keys from the ignition," he claimed.
Kailas claimed the man accused him of hitting a motorcyclist earlier. "He berated me and slapped my left cheek three times," he claimed.
Kailas claimed that during the incident, the motorcyclist he supposedly hit stopped a few metres in front of the car to witness the commotion.
"I told my assailant that I did not hit the motorcyclist, but he was adamant and called the police," he claimed.
Two policemen from the Sentul police station arrived minutes later and interviewed the motorcyclist, who told them that no such accident took place.
Before they left, the cops advised Kailas to settle the problem himself or lodge a police report.
Kailas’s parents and fiancee arrived a few minutes before police left. His father talked to the City Hall officers for about 10 to 15 minutes and the officers allowed him to leave. Kailas filed a complaint with City Hall yesterday.
"Even if I did commit an offence, the man had no right to slap me. I feel humiliated," he said.
When contacted, a spokesman for the City Hall director-general’s office said they will investigate the incident before taking action.
"It may take some time for us to investigate as we do not have the officer’s name or the van’s registration number," he said.
He said disciplinary action will be taken if the officer is found guilty.
