Dunlop is expanding its operational footprint across Malaysia, driven by a rapid expansion of its distribution channels and a refreshed product lineup targeting conventional, hybrid, and electric vehicles.

The brand has expanded its nationwide dealer network by over 30% in recent months, growing from roughly 150 outlets in May 2026 to more than 200 partner locations today. The expansion comes as Dunlop seeks to capture a larger share of Malaysia’s evolving replacement tyre market, where demand is shifting toward products that balance safety, durability, and cost efficiency.

Strengthening Market Reach and Distribution

Distributed in the country by Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and supported by parent company Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Dunlop is actively restructuring its go-to-market approach to improve product availability nationwide.

"Malaysia is an important market for Dunlop, and we see tremendous opportunities for long-term growth," said Marcus Lim, Managing Director of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. "Motorists are looking for products that deliver quality, safety, and performance, but they also expect genuine value. Our ambition is to establish Dunlop as an emerging premium brand by making premium performance accessible to more Malaysian motorists."

Lim emphasized that the company's growth plan extends beyond traditional tyre shops. Dunlop is actively targeting integration into broader automotive service centers and emerging retail channels to meet changing consumer purchasing habits, while building deeper partnerships across the local automotive aftermarket.

Dual Focus on Replacement and OEM Sectors

Alongside its retail expansion, Dunlop continues to service its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnerships. The brand supplies factory-fitted tyres for selected models from several major automakers operating in the region, including Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda, and Leapmotor.

To maintain these commercial supply lines, Toyotsu Binter Malaysia and Sumitomo Rubber Asia are focusing heavily on supply chain reliability and quality assurance to ensure consistent product fulfillment for vehicle assembly plants and franchised dealerships.

Diversified Lineup and Next-Generation Tech

To support its growth ambitions, Dunlop is rolling out a segment-specific portfolio tailored to local driving conditions:

  • Blue Response TG: Positioned as an everyday solution for passenger cars.
  • SP Sport Maxx 060+: Developed for high-performance vehicles requiring enhanced handling and grip.
  • Grandtrek R/T01: Engineereed specifically for SUVs, light trucks, and pickup trucks.
  • e.Sport Maxx: A dedicated electric vehicle (EV) tyre platform currently preparing for market entry to address the unique weight and torque demands of modern EVs.
Takehiko Asai, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Asia (Tyre) Pte. Ltd., highlighted that future product development is focusing heavily on technical efficiency.

"Today, our focus extends beyond conventional tyre development," Asai stated. "We are investing in next-generation technologies that enhance energy efficiency, improve wet-weather grip, reduce rolling resistance and cabin noise, while exploring intelligent tyre technologies that will support the future of connected and electrified mobility."

A 60-Year Footprint in Malaysia

Dunlop's current expansion builds on a deep historical footprint in the region. In 1963, Dunlop became the first tyre manufacturer to set up local production facilities in Malaysia, helping establish the brand's long-standing presence in the domestic automotive sector.

With Malaysia designated as a priority market for regional growth, the company plans to sustain long-term investments in dealer development, local product adaptations, and aftermarket partnerships across the country.
